Amtrak Bridge Replacement
Middletown, PA
UrbanTech redesigned the foundation system to allow the use of rapid bridge construction technique. The foundation system was reinforced while the existing bridge was in service. There was no service interruption during the foundation construction. The existing bridge superstructure was modified to allow the use of SPMT (Self Propelled Modular Transporter) for erection and demolition. The two existing bridges were removed, and the two new bridges were installed in one weekend, which minimized the impact on railroad operation. This was the first time Amtrak had fully utilized the rapid bridge construction technology.
