TN-53 REHABILITATION OF THE APPROACH VIADUCTS AT THE
THROGS NECK BRIDGE
UrbanTech played a key role in the rehabilitation of the Throgs Neck Bridge approach viaducts, working as a subconsultant to Thornton Tomasetti. Our contributions spanned both design and construction support phases.
Design Phase:
Comprehensive Inspection: UrbanTech conducted a detailed, hands-on inspection of 36 concrete piers, both over water and land.
Concrete Repair and Jacketing Design: We developed the final design for concrete repairs to the over-water piers and designed the concrete jacketing system for 5 piers located on the SUNY Maritime Campus.
Engineering Support: We assisted Thornton Tomasetti with seismic analysis of the viaducts, designed pier drainage repairs, and created a temporary support system to handle superstructure loads during jacketing rehabilitation.
Construction Support Phase:
UrbanTech provided crucial construction support services, including:
Technical Assistance: We offered technical expertise to the Construction Management team.
Submittal Review: We reviewed contractor submittals, including the superstructure jacking system for bearing replacement and the construction sequencing for concrete jackets at the over-land piers.
