Constructed in 1939, the Whitestone Bridge provides vital link between Queens and Bronx. Its daily vehicle volume exceeds 192,100. In 2013, UrbanTech entered the contract with the General Contractor to provide engineering service related to the design and detailing of the temporary bridge support system to allow staged demolition and reconstruction of the Queens approach spans. Successful completion of this project will provide the much needed structural upgrade to this aging infrastructure facility. We utilized BIM technology to study the phased construction and demolition sequences in order to detect interference. UrbanTech also designed the temporary support system for existing superstructure and provided fabrication shop drawings of the steel members.
